Before we start, you should note the following things.

  • If you are having difficulty sorting the column by date, you should try Changing the Date Format in Google Sheets.
  • When you sort a column, the values beside it (the rows) will also be shuffled. Therefore, we suggest our users keep a Serial Number column so that they can sort by S.No to rearrange the values in Google Sheets.

  • Click on it, and you can see the context menu. You can also access the context menu by Right-Clicking on the column.
  • Select the option Sort Sheet A to Z.

  • You can see the dates are arranged from old to new.

  • If you wish to sort the date from new to old, then select the option Sort Sheet Z to A.

Note: There are two ways by which you can undo Sort by Date in Google Sheets.

  1. You can use the Undo (CTRL + Z) option. But, it will only undo the sorting only if you have made the changes recently.
  2. Keep a Serial Number Column, so that you can revert back the document to its original form. If you have a Serial Number column, you can use the option Sort by S.No to rearrange the sheet.
