Most people use Google Sheets because it’s free and it saves the data every few seconds. However, I use Google Sheets because of its amazing features. One of the best features of Google Sheets is that you can Sort Column by Date or Alphabetically in Google Sheets. But, many people don’t know how to do it.

Before we start, you should note the following things.
- If you are having difficulty sorting the column by date, you should try Changing the Date Format in Google Sheets.
- When you sort a column, the values beside it (the rows) will also be shuffled. Therefore, we suggest our users keep a Serial Number column so that they can sort by S.No to rearrange the values in Google Sheets.
- The top column that contains your headlines might also get sorted. To avoid that, you need to Freeze the Headlines Row. We will soon upload the Tutorial to show How to Freeze the Top Row or Headlines Row. You can also freeze the First Serial Number Column.

How to Sort by Date in Google Sheets:
- Select the Date Column.
- Now, you will see a drop-down menu.
- Click on it, and you can see the context menu. You can also access the context menu by Right-Clicking on the column.
- Select the option Sort Sheet A to Z.
- You can see the dates are arranged from old to new.
- If you wish to sort the date from new to old, then select the option Sort Sheet Z to A.
Note: There are two ways by which you can undo Sort by Date in Google Sheets.
- You can use the Undo (CTRL + Z) option. But, it will only undo the sorting only if you have made the changes recently.
- Keep a Serial Number Column, so that you can revert back the document to its original form. If you have a Serial Number column, you can use the option Sort by S.No to rearrange the sheet.
