Computer Mouse can be classified into several types based on Connectivity, Technology, and Usage. Knowing and understanding the types of mouse will help you pick the correct mouse for your usage.
1. Ball Mouse (Mechanical Mouse) was introduced in 1968. It has a soft rubber ball on the lower surface, which could detect the movement and send signals to the PC.
2 The Ergonomic Mouse is designed while considering user comfort.
The unique shaped Mouse lets you rest the thumb & little finger comfortably & reduces wrist pain.
3 Vertical Mouse is ergonomically designed in a vertical shape to maintain natural handshake position.
It has the same buttons as a normal mouse.
4 Finger Mouse is the smallest Type of Mouse stripped to one of your fingers (mostly index finger). It has the same buttons as a normal mouse.
5 A Trackball Mouse looks like an inverted Ball Mouse & works on the same Mechanism.
The mouse has a Large Trackball on top, which you should control with your Thumb without moving your hand.
6 The Gaming Mouse is specially built for Gamers. It has extra buttons on the left side of the mouse, and some also have RGB lighting.
The Gaming Mouse also has better speed and accuracy.
7 Optical mouse use sensors that detects the movement. Optical Mouse uses LED light and can be used only on opaque surfaces. The surface has to be rigid and opaque like the computer desk.
8 Stylus Mouse or Pen Mouse is a pen-shaped mouse. You can write, draw, and control the mouse pointer by using the Stylus Tip. It also has left and right mouse buttons along with the scroll wheel.
9 Roller bar Mouse is a bar-shaped mouse, placed under the keyboard. When you place it under the keyboard, it appears as a Laptop with Keyboard and Touchpad.
10 Presentation Mouse is a unique Computer Mouse. It looks more like a remote control. It contains a laser pointer, mouse buttons, a scroll wheel, and some other useful buttons.
11 Laser Mouse is a more advanced version of the computer mouse. Laser Mouse uses a laser beam instead of LED. It has a higher DPI and can also be used on Glass and other transparent surfaces
12 Touchpads are usually found on Laptops & some Keyboards as well. You need to scroll your finger on the Touchpad to move the pointer. They also have buttons for left & right click.
13 Foot Mouse looks like the pedals you have in cars. The right pedal will be used as right-click, and the left pedal works as left-click. It is available in three variants: single foot, double foot, and triple foot.
14 3D Mouse is usually used while using 3D applications. It has several buttons for different features with a circular knob in the center.
15 Fancy Mouse: These are Normal Mouse with unique outer design

Previously we used to connect mouse using serial port, PS2 and 9 Pin. But, now we connect it using USB and wireless methods like Bluetooth & Nano Reciever.
