Did you ever get confused between Mbps & MBps. Know the Difference.

Have you ever wondered, why your download speed is far less than the speed advertised by your internet provider? Are the internet providers lying to you? Or is there something you need to know about Internet Speeds?

The speed of the internet advertised by your internet provider is presented in Mbps, while the download speed you get is shown in MBps.

So, what is the difference between MBps and Mbps? Let's understand.

Mbps stands for Megabits per second and MBps Full stands for MegaBytes per second. Both Mbps and MBps are used to indicate the speed of the internet.

Works the same for Kbps - KBps Gbps - GBps

If you know about Computer Storage, 1 Byte is Equal to 8 Bits. Hence, your download speed is almost Eight times less than the speed advertised in the plan.

Example: If you get an Internet Plan of 80Mbps, you will get a download speed of 10 MBps (80/8)

Internet providers advertise and display the internet speed in Mbps (Mega BITS per second). Whereas, while downloading files, the software shows the speed in MBps (Mega BYTES per second).

Many users complain that Internet Providers advertise a higher speed but provide less. It is because they didn't know the difference between Mbps and MBps.
