Types of Keyboards you didn’t know existed (14 Types)

1. Ergonomic Keyboard: It is specially designed to provide comfort for the user. The Keyboard is split into half with the keys inclined on both sides.

2. Split Keyboard: The keyboard is split into two so that the user can place them in front of their hands to lower the chances of elbow pain.

3. 60% Keyboards: The regular keyboard has 100% keys. This is called a 60% keyboard as it only has 60% of the keys. It is very useful if you have a small desk.

4. Gaming Keyboards: A Gaming Keyboard is especially for Gamers. Besides fancy looks and backlights, it has better response and key rollover. It also prevents key ghosting.

5. One-handed: This Keyboard has only half the keys. It is useful for gamers as they only use a few keys, and it also provides a lot of space for the mouse to move freely.

6. Left-Handed Keyboards: A regular keyboard has the Numpad keys on the right. But, on a Left-Handed Keyboard, you will find Numpad on the left. Even Right-handed people can use it.

7. Multimedia Keyboard: It looks like a regular keyboard but has some extra multimedia keys. It has music controls like Play, Stop, etc. and app launch keys like My PC, Calculator, Music Player, Control Panel, etc.

8. Mini/Compact Keyboards: They are smaller in size and easy to carry. Compact keyboards don’t have Numpad keys. The keys are also placed very close to keep it compact.

9. Chicklet Keyboard: A Chiclet Keyboard has flat keys that are placed at a distance to prevent mistyping. These are mostly found in Laptops. The low profile key structure is very suitable for typing.

10. Tenkeyless Keyboard: As the name suggests, it doesn’t have the Tenkey (Numpad Keys). Besides that, it is a regular keyboard.

11. Retro Keyboards: Retro Keyboards have keys similar to a Typewriter. Some even have similar sounds while typing. It also provides a unique and antique look.

12. Roll-Up Keyboard: The Roll up Keyboards are usually made of Silicon and you can roll up this Keyboard and carry it anywhere easily. Most Roll up Keyboards are waterproof. But several users may find it hard to use.

13. Projection Keyboard: The Device uses a laser to project the outline of a Keyboard on the surface. When you touch the keys, it will identify the hand moment and sends the information.

14. Numpad Keyboard:  The Numpad Keyboard only consists of a Numeric Keypad. It is useful for compact laptop users, who don't have Numpad Keys on their Laptop Keyboard.

Wired Keyboards are connected to the PC through a wire. Previously, they had PS2 connectivity, now they have USB. Wired Keyboards are affordable and more reliable.

Wireless Keyboard will keep your desk clean as there are no wires. And, you can use it even from a distance.  Wireless Keyboards can be connected using Bluetooth, WiFi, or USB Dongle.

Types of Keyboard based on Technology: Membrane Vs Mechanical

Membrane Keyboards have a rubber membrane under the keys, which responds when you press the keys. These are cheap and affordable. But, it has a lower speed and response time.

Mechanical Keyboards have an individual switch for each key. So, the keys are highly responsive. It can be very useful for developers, content writers, & gamers. Usually, they are expensive compared to Membrane
